ZOMBIELAND

December 10, 2009

Ok so I missed 2 weeks for this media assignment thingy but now am I back on track…well i like to think that i am :) Ummm well I have recently seen the film Zombieland, starring Jesse Eisenberg (Adventureland), Emma Stone (The House Bunny) and Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine) and thought that it was completely awesome! Basically the name of the film gives you exactly what you will be seeing on-screen which in this case is zombies.

Zombieland focuses on two men who have found a way to live in a world where it is overrun by zombies. Columbus (Jesse, the next Michael Cera) is a complete wuss and your typical nerd. Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) is a zombie slaying badass who sets out to find the last Twinkie on earth. Wichita (Emma) and Little Rock (Abigail) join forces with Columbus and Tallahassee to roam a near-dead world and kick zombie butts.

Personally I do not enjoy watching horror films but this film kept me interested the whole way; though if you don’t like clowns, I recommend that you stay away (they look scary enough without being a zombie). It was outrageously funny and witty especially Tallahassee. Who would think that a bad boy who has no fear in zombies whatsoever would have a mental breakdown after shooting the last Twinkie on earth (FYI…a twinkie is a small sponge cake that is stack loaded with cream)

Overall, if you like a scary funhouse with major frights and a slapstick of bloody glee then I recommend you buy a ticket to this zom com and don’t forget your blankie :)

Avatar

November 28, 2009

The latest film directed by the great James Cameron is said to be one of the greatest films being released this year; it is called ‘Avatar’. This film has had a budget of US$230-300 million (the most expensive film to date). This film is most interesting to me because it is all in 3D through the use of motion capture animation technology (think Gollum in the Lord of the Rings) and a new virtual camera. This camera allows James to observe directly on a monitor how the actors’ virtual counterparts interact with the movie’s digital world in real time and adjust and direct the scenes just as if shooting live action. Technology these days just keep getting better and better. Personally, I am a huge fan of James’ work like the Terminator Franchise and Titanic but I think Avatar will be his greatest accomplishment yet. Avatar is released on December 17th; yay just in time for Christmas.
